Blogging 101: An Introduction

mickeyHello Everyone!

Right now I am in the process of doing a blogging workshop to help improve my blogging skills and to make this blog the best it can be! So for the next few weeks I will be doing Blogging 101 posts, then will continue to go back to my usually book related posts! I just wanted to give you guys a little background on the change of posts and what the next few weeks will look like.

Allow me to take this opportunity to introduce myself and explain to you the purpose and reasoning behind A Comfy Chair in the Corner.  Hello! My name is Kaitlin, I live in Southern California, I love photography, running, Jesus, food, cupcakes, hiking, traveling, Doctor Who, plaid shirts, drinking tea, Instagraming, Star Wars, Disneyland, and books. I started A Comfy Chair in the Corner, or The Comfy Chair 4 1/2 years ago when I was living in London, and felt like I needed something to do. I love to read, as well as recommending book for friends and family, organizing book clubs, and just sharing my love books. It was this thought and passion that caused me to start this blog. When I first started out, I wasn’t sure what I had got myself into. I did not know if there were rules, regulations, or guidelines I should follow now that I had this blog (BTW, there isn’t any), and I soon realized that I had to make my own. I had to figure out what, when, where, how and why I would post, and in the beginning it was hard. My writing is pretty poor at the time and my posts were very wordy and irregular. I would maybe post about once a month, then maybe once every six months, then maybe once a year. There was a period where I took a significant amount of time off from the blogging community because I didn’t know what I wanted or needed from the blog; was it a hobby? Was it something I wanted to turn into a job some day? Where did I want it to go? Was my passion enough to keep it going? There were questions that I did not have answers to, until this year.

In January, I decided to make a conscious effort to post at least once a week. Once a week I would write something, whether is was something I was reading, a book review, book location or a TV show. I wanted to write, and so I did and the blog has grown since then. I decided that I wanted this blog to be a thing of passion; to show and demonstrate my love for reading, while taking you all on this journey of discovering new authors, new genres, and new books. I would love to this to become my job and work in the publishing industry, but I am not in a rush to get there yet. I am just enjoying the “hobby” aspect of it all. Since choosing to put more time into this passion from the beginning of the year, things have only gotten better. Not only do I have amazing followers which have grown in number, but I have connected with various authors, publishing companies, and other bloggers through this blog and social media. I have now become part of a community of like-minded people who share the same passions and hobbies that I do. I would have never imagined that this little idea would turn into something that has become such a huge part of my life.

I have to admit, this blog is hard to maintain, especially when my “real” life gets a little busy but the passion is still there. I hope to do a “book challenge” every year that will stretch and expand my reading knowledge, book reviews of books that have been sent to me, as well as finding books to fill different moods. The ideas are constantly flowing and I excited to share them all with you! But this blog will always be focused on books; I might do the occasional life post or writing post, but this blog is about books, and it will remain so. I am excited to see where this blog will take me and I hope you will come along with me on the ride to new adventures and discovering new books!

Happy Reading!
