Richard and Judy Summer Book Club

Hello everyone! Today Richard and Judy have announced the books they placed in their Summer Book Club 2011 which include 8 great novels for people to enjoy during this spring and summer. If you do not know R&J, they are two ex-television presenters who were known for having their own television book club that they would recommend books, interview authors and gain perspective of the literary world in the UK. They work with WHSmith, a UK bookstore, to put out a book club twice a year to influence the people of Britain to read more.

I managed to read a few of the books they had on their Winter Book Club 2011, and I was impressed with the ones I bothered to pick up and read, so I have a good feeling of going into the Summer Book Club about the books they choose. I like the idea of the book club because for those who are new to reading or just getting back into it, they are able to see some recommendations of books by people who read a great deal. Here is the list of the books for this summer:

–        When God Was a Rabbit by Sarah Winman

–        The Poison Tree by Erin Kelly

–        The Confession of Katherine Howard by Suzannah Dunn

–        The Death Instinct by Jed Rubenfeld

–        The Novel in the Viola by Natasha Solomons

–        The Return of Captain John Emmett by Elizabeth Speller

–        Every Last One by Anna Quindlen

–        Summer of the Bear by Bella Pollen

After reading synopses of each novel I think the ones I am most interesting in picking up would be The Confession of Katherine Howard and The Novel in the Viola. I am interested in the Katherine Howard novel mainly because I have recently gotten into Philippa Gregory’s work, who is known for her Tudor novels, and see how another author looks at the scandalous ex 5th wife of Henry the VIII. I am also interested in the Viola novel only due to the fact it evolves around WWII and I love a good WWII historical fiction novel! Here is the link to the website below to check out the books and read up on the synopsis of each novel. What ones interest you in reading this summer?
