Today, We are 7

birthday-cakeHave you ever had an important day that you sometimes forget about but then it magically sneaks up on you? For example, today this blog’s birthday, and today we turned 7. It is not often a day I have on my physical calendar, but a gentle reminder that pops up on my phone, ” Happy Anniversary from WordPress!” Really? Another year has come and gone, and I am still doing this? I still have a hard time believing that I am still doing this and still writing after all these years. What started out as something to do in my spare time has turning into an incredible hobby and true joy in my life. Often how much is written depends entirely on my life and how busy everything is outside of this blog. There has been phases of posts once a week to posts once a month to even posts once a quarter, but for some reason I am still drawn back to write here after all this time. I have worked with tons of different writers from all different genres and read books far out of my comfort level. I have read books I would have never ever picked out on my own and felt that my reading boundaries have been stretched.

For those of you who are new, Welcome to the family! To those of you who are still around, thank you for sticking with me, through every season whether prosperous or dry, you have been the few who are still reading and commenting when I do post. My hope this year is to post at least twice a month, and if I do more than that then YAY! I think with anything you love, you often set goals that are unreachable. If you recall a few years ago I set up the goal to post twice a week… that only lasted about a month lol. Then didn’t post anything for 4 months.. woof. So keeping the expectation and the goals within a realistic expectation for you and for me, reaching for twice a month for 2018.

As I have been doing this for 7 years now, let me bestow a bid of wisdom for my readers. If you are just starting out blogging, then congrats on embarking on a long journey! Often I get asked for advice when it comes to doing this, especially for as long as I have been, my only advice is… make sure you love it. There will be times when you won’t have anything to write, your creativity will run dry, you won’t have any content, or followers or sponsors and you will think of throwing in the towel. If your expectations are to reach 1 million subscribers in the next year, you will need to rethink your blog since it isn’t often you will have more than a few hundred, or thousand that will be interested in what you have to say. So, ask yourself what is the purpose of starting a blog?

If you are doing this for fame and fortune, you are in the wrong industry. There are few who make this a full-time job and gain enough followers and work to actually make this a living, but there are the humble few (like me) who are doing well, who get any many free books as their heart desires, and yet still consider this a hobby. I have worked with every major publishing company in the country, and I am truly thankful for every opportunity to work with them and read their work, but I am not in this to become a blogging celebrity and this did not happen over night. It was years of hard work and writing until publishing companies noticed me and actually bothered reaching out. Within the first few years, I was reaching out to them and often getting rejected. Now I am at a place where I am sought out for reviews, and gaining my thoughts and access to my follows. This did not happen over night, so know that to make a blog into something you will have to put in the time.

So, with that being said, make sure you know your intentions when starting your blog, or starting out in the blogging world. Make sure it is a passion that you have, because your passion is what will fuel you for do this for years on end. Even when your follower count hasn’t risen or you haven’t written in months because you haven’t read or didn’t have anything to write about, your passion will still remain. It’s the true key to anything that if you passion isn’t just seasonal or a phase but true passion, it will remain even if you change. I still do this because I love books, I love to read, and I love to write about them. It’s that simple, I love books and that is the foundation for this blog, my love of books grows within each passing year and with that more content for this blog.

I hope this little bit of wisdom will help those of you who are thinking of writing, or starting a blog of your own. Make sure you love it and it reflects who you are as a person and as a writer. With that being said, thank you for stopping by, if you would like to follow my blog I would love that! There are a bunch of bookworms that make the Comfy Chair family, and we would love to have you.

Happy 7th Birthday A Comfy Chair in the Corner! Now let’s go eat some cake! (Chocolate Devil’s Food with vanilla frosting is most preferable, but any cake will do)
