What I Read: May 2016 & Giveaway!

bookWell, it seems May was such a sad month of reading that April looked so promising, and eventful. Apparently I am on a big novel kick where all the books I have picked up or have been sent are like 400+ pages, woof! It is really hard to punch out a 400 page novel in a day, or two and since its baseball season, and my life doesn’t stop since it is now summer, I am hoping to do some more reading in the sun! I also feel terrible for not having time to post or write , and since it is now summer (HEYO!), I wanted to do a fun book give away to my faithful subscribers! There is a chance to win a book on this blog! Giveaway details at the bottom of the post, so let’s look at the short, and sad, list of books I read this month.

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer( YA, Fantasy) Book 2 of the Lunar Chronicles, and oh my gosh it is so good! I finished this in a day when I was out camping and exploring in Big Sur, and had the hardest time putting it down! Marissa has a way of keeping her readers engaged, and enthralled with her story telling ability. Her creativity is astounding! Taking fairy tale stories and characters and giving them a new twist?! So good! Defiantly a fun read for the summer, or any time really.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer( YA, Fantasy) Book 3 of the Lunar Chronicles, Yeah I know I have a problem. This book is longer but just as good as the first two! This took me a little longer to finish since my life got a little crazy and I chose sleep over reading (adulting is hard), but I finished it! Hooray for me!

Smoke by Dan Vyleta (Historical Fiction) This is a beast of a novel! I had to put it down for a few days since my brain was having a hard time keeping up, but well worth the read and the time! Review to come soon!

What I am currently Reading:

Rich and Pretty by Rumaan Alam (Contemporary, Fiction) So freaking good! This is the first contemporary book that I have liked in a long time! Review to come in the next week but yeah, the hype is real and is an incredible look at the lives of two women who grew up together, and who eventually struggle with learning not to grow apart.

Winter by Marissa Meyer (YA, Fantasy) Final book of the Lunar Chronicles, can you blame me? I put this much effort in the other three , I need to finish this series!

The Queen of the Night by Alexander Chee (Historical Fiction) I’m a book riot junkie and I now Rebecca and Liberty on All the Books podcast wouldn’t shut up about this book, so when this book became an option for Book of the Month, I jumped at the chance. One chapter in and it is unfreakin real!

June is going to be much more promising for reading since I am going on vacation at the end of the month, so I will have time to get some reading done! YES! Ok now on to the important things, the giveaway!

As most of you are aware, I started this blog about 5 1/2 years ago when I was living in London since I loved reading and was looking for something to fill my time., thus A Comfy Chair was born! It has been an interesting road with ups and downs, with crazy roller coaster of endless reviews, book, and posts, to nothing for months. I have read more books than I ever thought I would and have met some incredible people through this blog and working with various Publishing houses and authors. I have also been lucky to have the best followers who have been with me along on this crazy ride and have remained faithful through out my inconsistent phases. So this giveaway is for you! It is a way for me to give back to those who stuck around and still read my work, and still followed me even when I wasn’t reading or writing. So I am giving away a book, which is one of my favorite books I have read this year as well as the hottest summer read, Rich and Pretty by Rumaan Alam!

  2. I remember when you started this blog and I have followed you ever since! 🙂 My favorite book I have read this year is one I picked up because I have always loved dogs and have recently gotten an interest in dog training (Potentially training for Search & Rescue in the future). It is called “What the Dog Knows: Scent, Science, the Amazing Ways Dogs Perceive the World” by Cat Warren. It’s about a woman who purchased a german shepard that was the only of it’s litter. He had tons of excessive energy, always getting into trouble, and other behavioral problems. One day someone suggested she focus his energy and attention and train him as a cadaver dog. It is INCREDIBLE. Great true life story and such great information on dogs as well. I finished it within 2 days. I may read it again. 😛 I also recently picked up one of my husbands books laying around because I was bored and wanted something to read for a few mintues. It has been very interesting so far! “Kissing Kilimanjaro: Leaving it all on top of Africa” by Daniel Dorr. My husband is an avid mountaineer/rock climber/etc. and I figured it would just be something to pass the time. Well, I was wrong! The author tells his story of climbing the mountain so well and I am excited to continue reading it.
